July Update

Hello All Sidrabenieši;

We hope that you and your family members have endured these trying times and are now enjoying the summer heat.   Here are some updates from our July 5th Parvalde meeting:

  1. We all share the loss of the passing of one of our wonderful community members, Andris Brammanis last month. He is missed by all, it seems very strange to just not see him “around”. Although the family had requested no flowers, they have indicated Memorial donations can be made to Camp Sidrabene /St. Andrew’s Evangelical Lutheran Latvian Church or the Latvian Canadian Cultural Centre.
  2. Pool and Regulations:  After further research and analysis of the regulations provided by all four ministries that govern Sid (Federal, Ontario, Halton Region, City of Burlington) here are the adjusted Sid Pool regulations:
    1. The pool (water area) and concrete “deck” between the water and the painted black line is the area that has a maximum capacity of 10 persons that must also be 2m/6ft apart if not from the family “bubble”. The area between the black line and fence (perimeter outside of the “deck”) can have more people provided that physical (social) distancing of 2m/6 ft is maintained. Crowding must be avoided. This means you can bring your own chairs (none will be provided by Sid) into the fenced enclosure and have your kids in the pool while you watch from outside of the black line but inside the fence (allowing more people to be in the pool and on the “deck”).
    2. Mandatory Sign In/Out for Pool Use: To comply with government regulations we need to have a Log of persons using the Pool area. This means you will need to sign -in upon entry: Name, Phone #, Time In, Time Out.   A clipboard is posted at the entrance. Please try to keep your Pool time to 30 minutes when busy so all can enjoy the cool water.
  3. Kids 4 Kids camp started July 6th  and will be using their usual area across Bronte Creek and the upper hill area as well as the Main Building when needed. There will be two pool sessions daily (10-11 & 1:45-2:45) Mon-Fri right through to Sept. Camp pool time will be posted at the entrance, please wait until pool area is cleared before approaching. During the K4K camp weeks (9 weeks) the swing gate will be open during the day Mon-Fri to permit emergency access if required for campers.
  4. Nometne (Latvian Daycamp) still TBD – Update will be sent as soon as approved.
  5. Overnight Camping is permitted with a daily fee of $20 and $10 for parking /Season Pass parking, common areas are open but any grounds between the Pavilion and Bronte creek including Soccer field are not available from Sunday 6 pm to Friday 6 pm
  6. Upcoming Events:
    1. Multi-congregational drive-in and distanced seating, COVID compliant church service on August 9th, Pastor Ilze to preside; pre-registration is requested via Sarma Gaida, COVID regulations will be in full effect, please do not co-mingle in advance or following, more details to follow.
    2. Possible Čau pop-up shop some weekend(s) hosted by Pete Eglitis & family. Details to follow.
  7. Gate Duty resumes now that the Gate is open during weekends and 2 sessions are expected by all Leaseholders. Many slots are still open for the balance of the season. We have experienced no issues with observing COVID regulations during the Gate Duty process (masks and cleaning materials are provided OR bring your own). Please contact Andy G.
  8. Garbage and recyclables disposal: In our ongoing efforts to cut costs for Sid, we are cancelling the waste pick up service; there will now be a trailer in place of the Bulk Bin which Andy G will empty at the local Waste Station; Please ensure to bag your weekend garbage securely and respectfully please do not discard large items into the trailer. Blue bins will have a bag secured for removal to curbside on scheduled City pick up days.
  9. General Sidrabene work:  Wheelchair accessible washroom (main building) nearing completion;  many projects are still needed due to the aging of our facilities over the years; please reach out to Andy G for your participation in Talka work, you will be credited with having completed one of the mandatory  annual Talka’s. Plan is to still schedule a fall Talka.
  10. New Sidrabenieši:  Andris and Ilze Daugavietis are new Leaseholders of  Lot #16 (formerly Patricia); Zile Liepinš is the new Leaseholder of Lot #22 (formerly unoccupied); Talis Smits and family are residing this season on Lot # 28 (Krissy Pavelson).  Parvalde sends a warm welcome to these folks.
  11. Gypsy Moth Infestation: As many of you have noticed, there is a huge influx of these destructive caterpillars this year, in part due to the fact Halton region did not conduct any corrective measures (aerial / ground spraying).  Andy G spoke with some reputable Arborists and they have informed that despite all the leaves being eaten (mainly oaks and maples) the trees should survive and bounce back next spring.  In the meantime Andy suggests you visit the  internet site below for more information:
